“Hello from the other side”

Kernut the Blond Posted on November 9, 2015 by KernutDecember 13, 2015

Hello from the other side, I must’ve gone a thousand miles, I’m sorry but it’s long past time for me to move on. For such a long time you were my home, But not anymore. Hello from the other side…

But, wait! There's more...

There’s a town called Oatmeal. I am not making this up.

Kernut the Blond Posted on March 21, 2015 by KernutMarch 21, 2015
Car parts dinosaur in Bertram, Texas.

Really, there is a town called Oatmeal in Texas Hill Country. No, I don’t know why they named the town after a breakfast cereal. And, not far from Oatmeal, there is a dinosaur in Bertram. I don’t know if she likes oats.

Giant Squirrel in Sinton

Kernut the Blond Posted on March 16, 2015 by KernutMarch 16, 2015
As in real life, the giant squirrel statues are always portrayed munching on a pecan.

Texas is fond of squirrels. Or perhaps they’re just fond of massive squirrel statues. (And giant beavers.) You may recall Mrs. Pearl, the Giant Squirrel in Cedar Creek. Well, she’s not the only large squirrel statue in south Texas. There’s another giant squirrel, this time in Sinton, Texas. Why? Because … But, wait! There’s more…

Black Gold, Texas Tea. Oil, that is.

Kernut the Blond Posted on January 2, 2015 by KernutMarch 2, 2015
Pumpjack

It’s a good thing I’ve become a teetotaler because Texas is full of tea… but it’s black tea. As in oil. My drink of choice happens to be tea made from leaves. But I’d be happy to have a property full of Texas tea.

But, wait! There's more...

Why DID the chicken cross the road?

Kernut the Blond Posted on May 13, 2014 by KernutMarch 9, 2015
The world's largest scrap metal stag, Converse, Texas.

Why DID the chicken cross the road? Since arriving in the Texas countryside I’ve seen loose chickens scratchin’ and peckin’ in front yards. There can be anywhere from five to ten chickens at a time. They aren’t wild by any means, but they are true “free range” chickens.

Scrap Art Cars in Beeville, Texas

Kernut the Blond Posted on March 20, 2014 by KernutMarch 20, 2014
This car is made of spoons, forks, and other pieces of scrap metal.

Scrap Art Cars in Beeville, Texas

Beeville is a cute town, just on the edge of the Eagle Ford Shale (the big area of land running diagonally across the middle of south central Texas where most of the oil and gas come from). There was a fantastic art car and scrap metal exhibit at the Beeville Art Museum almost a year ago (that there is the long overdue part).

Ring my bell and warm my bed.

Kernut the Blond Posted on November 2, 2013 by KernutNovember 2, 2013
Money, money, money.

Mrs. Gordon must have had cold feet. Or not.

At first I thought these were bed pans, but they’re smaller than those I remember seeing years ago. They also seem to be missing the bottom portion, where you put the coal. Maybe these are a different type of bed pan?

Like door locks.

Only the best dressed fleas for MY pets.

Kernut the Blond Posted on October 13, 2013 by KernutOctober 13, 2013
Fleas under (layers of) glass. That is a magnifying glass over their container, which is all encased in a glass display case.

…What it lacks in size, it makes up for in density, and random oddities. The place is full up to the high ceiling with — stuff. Stuff like shrunken heads and dressed fleas.

Last we left off with the two-headed goat and the shrunken heads. That’s a hard act to follow, no doubt. Perhaps I shouldn’t have lead with the heads. Oh well, too late now.

Two heads are better than one shrunken head. Possibly.

Kernut the Blond Posted on September 28, 2013 by KernutNovember 2, 2013
Goat born with two heads and four eyes.

It’s All In Your Shrunken Head

It would seem the Ingram-Bandera area has a thing for heads. Today I bring you a two-headed goat, and a couple shrunken heads, one of which is human. (If you’re squeamish you might want to read something else, like Cat-butt-tongue water or watch the bull castration video I made on a Texas ranch. On second thought, if you’re squeamish you probably stopped reading this blog a long time ago. Ok, never mind.)

All I’ve Got Is A Giant Squirrel

Kernut the Blond Posted on August 4, 2013 by KernutAugust 4, 2013
Ms. Pearl, the Giant Squirrel, Cedar Creek, Texas

I could whine to you all about a lot of things, and probably come up with a much better post, but I need something to make me smile today.

Ms. Pearl is it. I hope she makes you smile, too.
