Meanwhile, back at the ranch named Meanwhile there was a giant ant.

Kernut the Blond Posted on February 13, 2016 by KernutFebruary 13, 2016
Meanwhile back at the ranch.

When I was in north Texas Hill Country near Kerrville, I would walk through the neighborhood. One day, shortly after I snagged the photos of the giant ant in their front yard (below), this fence and gate showed up.

A rough day at Rough Canyon, or Does This Look Broken?

Kernut the Blond Posted on February 12, 2016 by KernutFebruary 13, 2016

The day was hot – hot like only central Texas can be in mid-August. The kind of hot that would burn an egg on the sidewalk. Waves of heat radiated off the asphalt road. We were headed to Rough Canyon at Lake Amistad for the day, pulling a boat behind … But, wait! There’s more…

Like a duck on a June bug

Kernut the Blond Posted on February 2, 2016 by KernutFebruary 2, 2016

Why the title? Because, ducks. Specifically, The Duck Decoy Museum in Havre de Grace (don’t ask me how to pronounce that), Maryland. The museum website proudly proclaims the town of Havre de Grace the “Decoy Capital of the World!” At one end of a long boardwalk that winds along a … But, wait! There’s more…

A Midnight Kiss in Hershey

Kernut the Blond Posted on January 20, 2016 by KernutJanuary 20, 2016
A giant kiss at midnight on NYE.

A midnight kiss in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on New Year’s Eve For someone who loves cheezy roadside attractions, chocolate, and for whom New Year’s is her favorite holiday, it was a near perfect night. Forget about the crystal ball. On New Year’s Eve towns all across Pennsylvania drop (or raise) a … But, wait! There’s more…

Going down in Pennsylvania: Indian Echo Caverns

Kernut the Blond Posted on January 9, 2016 by KernutJanuary 20, 2016
This is the pond/lake! The blue color doesn't show up as well on film, but in person it's a lovely light turquoise.

This wasn’t my first time… I’ve been down before. Twice. But my trip to Indian Echo Caverns in Hummelstown, PA, is the second time in my life I’ve been underground. It was cool, literally and figuratively speaking.

But, wait! There's more...

Toilet Seat Art Museum. Need I say more?

Kernut the Blond Posted on May 31, 2015 by KernutMay 31, 2015
Barney Smith and his favorite toilet seat.

Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit! (A southern saying indicating surprise or astonishment. And that, my dear Kernutties, is your lesson for today.) Imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered there was a Toilet Seat Art Museum in San Antonio. I know! Barney Smith, the toilet … But, wait! There’s more…

Jackalope sighting in Texas Hill Country!

Kernut the Blond Posted on May 8, 2015 by KernutMay 15, 2015
The jackalope, and a rider.

A seven-foot-tall jackalope was spotted in Wimberley, Texas!

The furry jackrabbit-antelope hybrid was seen wearing a horse saddle, and galloping through Hill Country after throwing a unknown blond rider.

There’s a town called Oatmeal. I am not making this up.

Kernut the Blond Posted on March 21, 2015 by KernutMarch 21, 2015
Car parts dinosaur in Bertram, Texas.

Really, there is a town called Oatmeal in Texas Hill Country. No, I don’t know why they named the town after a breakfast cereal. And, not far from Oatmeal, there is a dinosaur in Bertram. I don’t know if she likes oats.

But, wait! There's more...

A BIG Dime in a Box in Dime Box, Texas. Not making this up.

Kernut the Blond Posted on April 20, 2014 by KernutApril 20, 2014
A dime. In a box. In Dime Box, Texas. Oh, the irony.

There it was: A big dime, about two feet across, in a big plexiglass box – in Dime Box, Texas.

Folks, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

It was awesome.

But, wait! There's more...

Scrap Art Cars in Beeville, Texas

Kernut the Blond Posted on March 20, 2014 by KernutMarch 20, 2014
This car is made of spoons, forks, and other pieces of scrap metal.

Scrap Art Cars in Beeville, Texas

Beeville is a cute town, just on the edge of the Eagle Ford Shale (the big area of land running diagonally across the middle of south central Texas where most of the oil and gas come from). There was a fantastic art car and scrap metal exhibit at the Beeville Art Museum almost a year ago (that there is the long overdue part).

But, wait! There's more...
