Random Giant Texas
This is a short post of a few random giant things in Texas: Giant Spurs in Gainesville, Giant Chess Knight and Castle Wall near Gainesville, and a Giant Chessboard in Giddings. In case you are like me and want to know the “why” of things, I’ll include what little I know about these items.
This giant chessboard is at a camp on the outskirts of Giddings. I’ve seen a few of these around the country, just a fun way to play chess.
The giant spurs are a sign advertising welding and metal crafting services. They are in the yard of a home on the frontage road of highway 82, east of Gainesville.
These giant metal longhorns with skull are on the same property as the giant spurs.
Now this and the one below are a mystery. No one in town could tell me about the giant knight and castle wall marking the entrance to a large property in north Gainesville, highly visible from Interstate 35. The small sign on the knight indicates all are welcome to visit, but there wasn’t much to see beyond the entrance – a lone bulldozer had been slowly working on clearing the property beyond the gate. All that remained were a pile of rubble and a large gazebo. You can see a glimpse of the bulldozer and gazebo by looking through the arch of the photo below.
No one that I asked could tell me about this property, even though it is impossible to miss it on the side of the interstate right next to the car dealership. If you have any information about it, I’d love to know!
