Beaver + Wood = Love
That nice cowboy who took me to see bulls being castrated, and ride in a hay bailing tractor got me hooked on Duck Dynasty.
Yeah, he’s a real romantic.
But have you seen Duck Dynasty?? It’s the best reality show on TV.
WAIT! Don’t go! I’m sorry I used a bad word: reality show. But as someone who detests reality shows (unless she’s in one about RVers), I can honestly say this show is different than the others.
The family, the Robertsons, of the Duck Commander duck call monopoly, are only marginally dysfunctional – just enough to keep the show interesting, but not weird. They’re a close-knit family that does not, I repeat, does not have any infighting or backstabbing. At least none shown on TV.
By now you’re probably wondering what the Duck Dynasty family has to do with beavers? (Of course, that assumes you remember the title of this post.) It’s got a little to do with it, but not much.
Uncle Si, the goofiest of the bunch, loves beaver. Well, he loves hunting beaver. He calls himself the Beaver Commander. Of course, this has spurred a whole slew of t-shirts with suggestive sayings related to beavers.
So, today, I have super large beaver to show you all.
The very big beaver is at the World’s Largest Convenience store in New Braunfels, Texas. The store chain is Buc-ee’s. Pictured above are the gas pumps at the store – I believe there are 62 pumps. The store itself is about 67,000 square feet. Having a fancy convenience store with your gas station is fairly common in Texas (and something I never saw in California).
The New Braunfels Buc-ee’s is great! I was amazed the first time I went in: they have cute clothes, all sorts of knick-knacks, and an incredible selection of fresh, and prepackaged foods. The hot pastrami sandwich is the best.
The Buc-ee’s mascot is a beaver. This is the big beaver at the New Braunfels, Texas Buc-ee’s.
Now, if we could only find some big wood for the big beaver. (Maybe the big beaver should meet the World’s Largest Kokopelli?)
UPDATED: A friend and reader, Pete A., sent me this…
best road trip stop ever!
I do love the NB Bucee’s. Recently discovered their pastrami sandwich and the awesome chef’s salad! I’m glad they aren’t closer because I’d be heavier!
Duck Dynasty is ok, but I prefer Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
No! Not Honey Boo Boo!
