Ode to an Awning
I know how much you all love my poetry, since Train and Tumbleweed got such rave reviews… (<—dripping with sarcasm), so I wrote another poem for you. This is what happened the other night to my neighbor’s awning during another huge storm in Texas.
Ode To An Awning
A fine product by Dometic,
All shiny and new,
It blocked out the sun,
Providing shade for a few.Holding twinkling lights
And wind chimes by the ton,
It was a silent witness
To all sorts of RV fun.One stormy night while doing its best,
My neighbor arrived home only to see,
His awning lay in a crumpled mess.
Mother Nature won against the Dometic A&E.Twisted metal and canvas covered the side of his rig,
His poor dog trapped inside had started to wig.
The dog couldn’t get out, He couldn’t get in,
So while in the thunder and rain,
We cut the awning away from the frame.May we all learn from this disaster,
Angle your awning well so the water drains faster.
Because no matter how you figure,
Like everything else, the storms in Texas are always bigger.
This is what happens when you’re raised on Dr. Seuss and Dick and Jane books.
That storm was a doosey!! You have so many talents. I’m not sure poetry is your best, however. LOL Love you.
We got another one last night. I guess I’m the only one who likes my poetry. It’s supposed to be funny. I think no one else gets it. I sent you an email…did you get it?
Hey, I think your poetry is swell…I have a flashback!…Sitting in grade school..Sister what’s her name with ruler in hand..ready to stike!..My brain just came up with nothing.
Maybe that’s why My knuckles still hurt 50+ years later??
David
Thank you, David! and welcome to my little corner of the interwebs!
I can only imagine the threat of a knuckle smacking is not conducive to creative writing.
