The Great Roll-About: Single Female Traveling Long Term in an RV — 26 Comments

  1. wow, that was so exciting to read! i traveled a lot when i was in my late teens, early 20s. living out of a VW van and seeing the country. it was rough at times, but more often it was an amazing way to live and i got to see and do so many things that are now, at age 43, great memories. further, i’ve wanted for years to do the same thing again, the same thing you’re doing, and i will! congratulations to you for taking this brave leap into the great unknown. you won’t regret it!

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to start my wild adventure on August 3!

I’m about your age, and wish I could have done it earlier like you did. There’s soooo much to see! Who knows, I may never “land” in a permanent home again πŸ™‚

    • πŸ™‚ Thank you! I can’t wait to start rolling about the country and posting my adventures. I hope to be shooting video, too. Maybe we can meet when I hit your neck of the woods? I could rescue you from the family vacation πŸ™‚

  2. That is so exciting! I am so glad you are going to set out on your journey soon…pictures…I want to see lots of pictures. Cheers to you! And if you get to the northwest…give me a call and I will slap your feet into socks and sandals so fast you won’t know what happened to you. Haha.

    • I’m buzzing with anticipation! Yes, there will be pictures, and more likely video! I might even edit it. I’d love to meet up when I get to the northwest! I might be a year or so, though. I’m starting by heading south – with the weather. Will make a big circle to be on the east coast around April of next year, which puts me back in the west in about a year. *fingers crossed*!

P.S. Sorry we didn’t get a chance to meet in person when you were here. I hope you had a great trip!

  3. Good luck on your journey! I have always wanted to just throw caution to the wind and travel cross country and see all the weird and wacky things along the way. I say good on ya! I just found you and can’t wait to read about all your fun (and funny!) adventures. Rock on sister!

    • You should just do it! And welcome to my little spot on the interwebs! I hope my adventures will be entertaining! πŸ™‚

    • Can you come over and counsel my father and my sister? They have this obsession with controlling my life. Both think I can do little right. πŸ™‚

  4. How great for you, a fabulous adventure. Heading over to Phoenix in your travels. I suggest if you are to wait until it stops being 110 degrees. But if you show up I’ll be happy to have a glass of wine over ice with you.

    • Fabulous! AZ is on my current list. I’d love to meet to met up with you on the road! Should be there sometime in mid to late September.

  5. I am jealous! And completely supportive! I can’t wait to read about your adventures!

There’s a barbed wire museum in Kansas you might want to check out…

    Xo susie

  6. Let it roll, Kernut… Baltimore’s waiting for you… But since you’re starting on the other end of the country, I suppose we’ll be waiting quite a while…

    • Ya Baltimore! Crab cakes – I think you promised me crab cakes. My memory is crap, and you may have to remind me when I get closer to your neck of the woods, but I rarely forget food stuffs. πŸ™‚

My best guess (not a terribly educated one, I might add) is that I’ll be on the east coast around April of next year, weather permitting. I know, it seems a long time away to me, too. There are a bunch of great bloggers on the east coast – I plan to be partying for a while.

  7. You should read/take Neil Gaiman’s American Gods with you – in it he talks about how roadside attractions are like holy places in modern culture. You could totally sell your trip to your family as a religious quest.

    • OMG! Roadside attractions like Holy places? He sounds like my kind of peeps. That’s the author The Bloggess likes, isn’t he?

Huh, maybe I could convert the two hold-outs of I pitched this as a religious pilgrimage! Great idea! Thanks!
